Wheat Ridge Parks, Forestry & Open Space (PFOS) partnered with College Learning Experience (CLE) to provide volunteer opportunities for students at the Nature Play area in Anderson Park this summer.
CLE provides post-secondary education and support services for young adults with learning differences and is dedicated to propelling them towards success along their journey to independence. Students pursue an academic program or career of interest, and as part of the program CLE offers students volunteer career exploration opportunities.
Students visited the Nature Play Area weekly from May through July 2020 and volunteered a combined total 30 hours. They learned proper techniques to plant perennials, mulch and weed. Students also learned to recognize a variety of plants such as purple coneflower, chocolate flower, red thyme, pine-leaf penstemon and blanket flower. Their work supported the installation of the Nature Play Area that was designed by Wilmore-Davis Elementary students. This experience provided students opportunities for hands-on learning, teamwork and spending time outdoors.
Thank-you, CLE students for your contributions to Anderson Park and for allowing our department to be a small part of your learning experience!
