About the Dog Park

Opened in October 2011, the dog park is approximately 2 acres in size and is situated on the northeast area of Fruitdale Park. It is surrounded by a 6 foot fence with a divider fence separating a large dog area from a small dog area.

Dog Park Rules

• All Wheat Ridge residents are required by Ordinance Sec. 4-31(c) to license dog(s) through the Jefferson County Dog License Program.
• Current rabies tag must be affixed to dog's collar.
• Dog owners / handlers assume full responsibility for their dog(s) and minor children.
• Dog owners / handlers assume the legal responsibility for damage, injury or disease to persons or property caused by their dog(s).
• Dog owners/handlers must clean up dog defecation and dispose of waste in provided receptacles.
• Dog owners / handlers must remain in enclosed area with their dog(s) at all times.
• Dogs are not allowed to chase or harass wildlife.
• Dogs must be accompanied by a person 17 years or older.
• Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the enclosed dog park area.

Non-Permitted Items

The following are not allowed in the off-leash area:

• Aggressive dogs
• Dogs exhibiting signs of illness or are known to be ill
• Dogs not under owner's voice control
• Dogs too young to be vaccinated against rabies
• Female dogs in heat
• Toys

Security

This park is monitored by the Wheat Ridge Police Department. Failure to abide by park rules may result in a summons to court or a loss of privileges. Non-emergency Police: 303-237-2220
